County Division of Family & Children 711 Anson Street Salem, IN 47167 phone: 812-883-4305 The local Office of the Division of Family and Children administers Public Assistance Programs, Child Protection Services, and Family Preservation and/or Reunification Services. Public assistance programs include Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medical Assistance for the Disabled, Blind and Aged, Hoosier Healthwise Medical Assistance for Children and Pregnant Women. The Agency administers the Indiana Manpower & Comprehensive Training (IMPACT) program. Categorical and financial requirements must be met for eligibility. Applications for assistance can be made M-F, 7:30AM-4:30PM. Child Protection Services (CPS) investigates reports of child abuse and neglect to protect children from further abuse or neglect and prevents, remedies, or assists in solving problems that may result in abuse, neglect, exploitation, or delinquency of children. People may call 812-883-4305 during office hours to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect; after hours, weekends, and holidays call the County Sheriff's Office at 883-5999. CPS also operates a toll-free hotline (1-800-800-5556) which will route the call to the county from which the call is made. CPS receives and initiates investigations of abuse reports on a 24-hour basis. Reports can also be made in person or by correspondence. Office hours are 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
